Affordable Food, Housing, Healthcare

Updated: 2 days ago

Affordable groceries and food secruity, affordable housing, and healthcare, are not just political issues; they are personal one. Mike knows what it's like to come from single parent home, sometimes needing public benefits, to becoming a Harvard Grad traveling the world, and sometimes having corporate budgets empowering a cushy life.

I struggled as an entrepeneur, esepcially in the early days not knowing how I would eat and follow my my dreams. I know what it's like to ignore one's health because I couldn't afford it. I still struggle as a father of two, husband to be, and man striving to live my best life in NJ, one of the most expensive places to live in the US.

Right now, Millions of New Jerseyans cant afford the healthcare procedures they need. Even as Medicaid doesn't fund all procedures that improve quality of life, we need to ensure universal healthcare isn't a pipe dream. Most of us don't even have the accurate information about what we should be eating, and we're caught up in the rat race trying to survive, let alone thrive.

Change can be achieved by deploying Federal revenues into higher yielding industries and asset classes. We are already seeing state investments into AI Giants Intel, and this is the precedent we need for a Government approach that mimics successful sovereign wealth funds from Singapore to the UAE, leading the way in investing in innovation. This is not to endorse these foreign governments, but to state that there's a way for the US to make more $, to generate revenue without taxing more, and that is simply redeploying revenues into high yielding activities.

I'm a Pro-business Progressive. I believe that there's enough for everyone out here, but we have to move the money into areas that generate high returns, and include more Americans.

Understanding the Current Healthcare Landscape in New Jersey

New Jersey's healthcare system is a complex web of providers, insurers, and regulations. While the state has made strides in expanding access to healthcare, many residents still face significant barriers. Here are some key points to consider:

  • Rising Costs: Healthcare costs in New Jersey have been steadily increasing. According to a recent report, the average family premium for employer-sponsored health insurance reached over $20,000 last year.

  • Uninsured Rates: Despite the expansion of Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, approximately 8% of New Jersey residents remain uninsured. This translates to over 700,000 individuals without access to necessary medical care.

  • Health Disparities: Certain communities, particularly low-income and minority populations, experience worse health outcomes due to limited access to care and preventive services.

The Importance of Affordable Healthcare

Affordable healthcare is essential for several reasons:

  1. Improved Health Outcomes: When individuals can access healthcare services without financial strain, they are more likely to seek preventive care, manage chronic conditions, and receive timely treatment.

  2. Economic Stability: High medical costs can lead to financial ruin for families. By ensuring affordable healthcare, we can help families avoid bankruptcy due to medical bills.

  3. Community Well-being: Healthy individuals contribute to a thriving community. When people can access the care they need, it leads to a more productive workforce and a stronger economy.

Mike’s Vision for Affordable Healthcare in New Jersey

Mike believes that everyone deserves access to affordable healthcare. His vision includes several key initiatives:

Expanding Medicaid

One of the most effective ways to increase access to healthcare is by expanding Medicaid. This program provides coverage for low-income individuals and families. By expanding eligibility, more residents can receive the care they need without the burden of high costs. More importantly, a civilian review board that updates the procedures that can be covered, for some children including removing tonsils that endanger healthy sleeping, can make all our children live a better quality of life.

Implementing a Public Option

A public option would provide an alternative to private insurance, allowing individuals to choose a government-run plan. This could help lower costs and increase competition in the insurance market, ultimately benefiting consumers.

Strengthening Preventive Care Services

Investing in preventive care can save lives and reduce long-term healthcare costs. Mike advocates for increased funding for preventive services, such as vaccinations, screenings, and wellness programs, to ensure that residents can maintain their health.

Supporting Mental Health Services

Mental health is a critical component of overall well-being. Mike supports initiatives that expand access to mental health services, ensuring that individuals can receive the care they need without stigma or financial barriers.

Maria, a single mother of two, faced a tough decision when her employer changed health insurance plans. The new plan had higher premiums and deductibles, making it difficult for her to afford necessary medical care for her children. After advocating for Medicaid expansion, Maria was able to enroll her family in a plan that covered their healthcare needs without breaking the bank.

John’s Experience

John, a retired veteran, struggled with mental health issues after serving in the military. He found it challenging to access affordable mental health services, leading to a decline in his overall well-being. Thanks to community outreach programs that Mike supports, John was able to receive counseling and support, allowing him to regain control of his life.

The Role of Community Organizations
